The 15 km alpine access road is wide and suitable for cars, campervans and buses. The car park, at 1,725 m, is the highest in New Zealand. Chains must be carried at all times; there's a fitting bay with parking along the road (no chain hire in Fairlie or Tekapo). An optional third-party shuttle also picks up from the Top Saddle Carpark, about 7 km up the road.

Mount Dobson is in Mount Dobson, New Zealand (Southern Alps). Its base is at 1,725 m and its summit at 2,018 m, a vertical drop of 293 m. Parking is free and needs no reservation. Mount Dobson hasn't announced its 2027 opening date yet. It typically opens around July 3.
